About Laura D’Angelo

I am a licensed psychoanalyst (LP#000876) who provides therapy to individual, couples and groups. I am also an award-winning author who loves story and helping people to identify themes in their own narratives.

My Training

My intensive 11-year training in psychoanalysis includes clinical training at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP) in New York where I am currently a member and serve on the board of trustees. Prior to that, I earned a Master’s of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University, specializing in religion and psychiatry. I am also member of Training and Research for Intersubjective Self Psychology (TRISP), a psychoanalytic institute that focuses on the centrality of empathy in the therapist/patient relationship.

My specialized training includes work as a non-denominational chaplain and training in trauma work using using Internal Family Systems. My work is guided by my appreciation of the psychological and spiritual dimensions of suffering.

In my earlier career, I worked as a journalist writing for daily newspapers, academic journals and national magazines. I have written on politics, parenting, relationships and family building for Good Housekeeping, Parenting, Parents, American Baby, Baby Talk, Scholastic magazines, Parade Magazine’s react, Brain,child.
